Is anybody out there?
Okay so by a show of hands, who is behind in their study of David? We did not watch the video this morning so i was thinking if everyone needed some time to catch up i happen to know the person who can make that happen. So either leave me a comment or keep your hand up in the air... (Megan i keep forgetting to bring the videos to you-someone (Casey & Emily) help me remember!!!) Please update me on your status....Much love!
Sidenote
So heard this song this morning on my ipod, its an oldie but a goodie! It made me think of day 3 & how i have been praying for you to see God pursuing you through out your day, so thought i would share! The video is a little different; but i ended up getting a little teary at the end at just the thought of God using his people from all sorts of different walks of life.
Day Three-Count Your Many Blessings
I thought this day was quite refreshing!
Good to know God doesn't mind when we go back to ask him a second time "so did i hear you right? you want me to do..." Did you catch that David actually did this twice in this one chapter 1Samuel 23:1-4 and then again 1Samuel 23:10-12. I love it! Have you ever had to work on a project or even just making plans for the day with a friend and it maybe took a few calls back and forth before you had the details of your plan worked out. You probably didn't hesitate to pick up the phone because you were needing to make sure you were both on the same page. Can you imagine what our lives would be like if we got up every morning and asked God what the plan is for the day and then continued to follow up through out the day. How do you think your day would be different? I'm guessing we would have some head on collisions with blessings and oppurtunities to bless. What do you think?
Hooray! God sent some encouragement to David through Jonathan- AGAIN! I hope you are catching how relentless God is with us, He wants us to understand He has a plan for us and He wants us to be in on it, its not always as mysterious as we think. I pray that today God would give you eyes to see and ears to hear how God is encouraging you!
Anybody else find it crazy that Jonathan found David no problemo but Saul is chasing him around mountains? Mmmm.
Okay, so this week i apparently am remembering every little phrase i've ever learned. HA! I don't even like catchy little phrases!!!! UGH! So here it is for today "We are to blessed to be stressed!" TA DA! Yah, when we count our many blessings it makes it hard, well hardER to say woe as me. True or false?
Farewell dear ones for now!

Day Two-The Inhumanity of Humanity
Day two really stretches my mind. One of the things i so love about the WORD is that this is all for real, real flesh and blood people struggling to live for God. He gives us examples of people like David and Paul that we can so relate to and take comfort in knowing that they were not SuperHumans and God greatly loved them and used them. That being said we have to take the good with the bad and wrap our minds around the fact that Saul had 85 priests and their entire families slaughtered. Ugh.
What kind of person do you think this "Doeg the Edomite" was? Remember he was a shepherd not a warrior. Part of me wants to think maybe he was insecure and was desperate to somehow fit in? But then to think of someone who is insecure picking up a sword over & over & over... Was he greedy and just wanted on Saul's good side? Maybe he was just plain crazy. I know its hard to imagine what could have possibly going on in his head but its worth pondering to see if we can learn from him, like what not to do. The phrase keeps running through my head "If you don't teach your children to stand for something they will fall for anything." Is anyone tracking with me here? What do you think?
So how did our David respond to all this evil? I think when David wrote Psalm 52 he was pretty much reminding himself (you will come to see he does that a lot!) of truths he already knew.
1) He tattle-taled on Saul to God
2)He reminded himself that God would not let Saul go unpunished
3)He knew that God was & is still watching out for him
4)He reminded himself God is good
Good stuff. Do you think you would struggle with one of these things more than others? #1 is a bit of a challenge for me. David reminded himself that it was not his fault that all those people were killed it was all on Saul. The enemy would have loved for David to feel the weight of that on his shoulders, can you even imagine how that would slow us down?
Lots of good stuff in here!

"This is dangerous & it will turn out badly for you."
Hello all! Just thought i would share, we discussed this little phrase last Thursday and now i remembered i had wrote about it last year, so i thought i would share:) Sorry so late on getting started this week, will try to catch up tomorrow, feel free to start us off if you would like!
Sunday's Leftovers
Funny thing happened Sunday morning. God drove home a lesson that He has taught me a thousand times. And He did it in the first five minutes of service. Earlier in the week I had learned an interesting word that I couldn't get out of my mind, still can't, don't want to. Get this-it's actually Mandarin Chinese, Ling xiu (leeng SHE-oo) Ling means spirit or soul and Xiu means repair. Ling xiu=soul repair! They use this word for their Christian daily devotional time. Well whats not so funny is I woke up in quite a foul mood Sunday morning, I was tired, then I was angry because I was tired, had to go to work after church...silly but I just couldn't shake it-mad at life. Went to church and our worship pastor Tom asked if any of us just felt the need to be there this morning, just felt like if you didn't come something bad was going to happen(not like in a weird way, like God's going to get you-we're not like that-God is not like that:)) This brings me to another thing that God has relentlessly been reminding me of. Acts 9:5 Amp AndSaul said, who are you Lord? I am Jesus, Whom you are persecuting. [b]It is dangerous and it will turn out badly for you to keep kicking against the goad [to offer vain andperilous resistance]. (Also in Acts26:14) Two things totally got me here!
#1)God is hugely amazing and nothing like us(duh-i know) Stephen had just been martyred, practically at Paul's feet and Jesus wasn't coming after him in a I'm going to get you sort of way. He is love. He is able to completely be there for Stephen and yet at the same time completely be there for Paul. He loves them both equally. He ached for Stephen's situation, the Word tell us that Christ rose to His feet, standing at God's right hand. At the same time He loved Paul and had such compassion for him, he didn't say I AM going to get you, or your going to make this up to me and be my servant. Christ didn't NEED anything from Paul. He said let me tell you, this does not end well for YOU. Which brings me to
#2) I cannot count how many times I have heard His Spirit say the same thing to me. The Word tells us, the Spirit prompts us, He always gives us a way to escape temptation... I will say I was stunned when I read that verse, the Bible says His Word is alive and I say- no doubt. I'm still overcome with emotion now just thinking about it. I learned early on about having a "personal" relationship with Christ and can truly say I have had one for the past 12 years but it just hit me a fresh. God speaks to us, not only through His Word but in our soul. I immediately was reminded of when I was battling drug addiction and can say before I would get high heard those words "this is dangerous and it will turn out badly for you" Times where I did not hold every thought captive, knowing full well I was flirting with deep depression-guess what I heard "this is dangerous and it will turn out badly for you" And certainly in respect to my recent chains i am carrying around, buying our first home (much to expensive, fixer upper) two new cars, that we so needed, gotta drive something (yeah right) I then again heard "this is dangerous and it will turn out badly for you" Obviously, i did not listen. The grief in knowing the King of the Universe was speaking to me & i did not listen...Back to Sunday morning, my attitude was in bad shape. When Tom stopped and asked if any of us just felt the need to be there this morning, just felt like if you didn't come something bad was going to happen... Guess what I heard-attitude check! Keep flirting with oh what a miserable life and "this is dangerous and it will turn out badly for you"
Ling xiu=soul repair. Lord give us ears to hear!

Day One-For Crying Out Loud
I hope you all are off to a better start than me this week! Day one kicked us off with some just good points to remember in our relationship with God. It reminded me again that God wants to be numero uno in our everyday lives. He wants us to pour out our hearts to Him.
1)David prayed
Last week we talked about "who gets that first text message?" theres that silly little saying "Do you run to the throne or the phone?" Too often i use my own 4 step plan 1)worry, 2)come up with a plan 3) give into being overwhelmed 4)pray
2)David cried allowed
Yes God already knows everything but when we cry out to Him in a sense we are admitting to him this is too much for me, i can't do this, but i know You can
3)David poured out his complaint to God
Yikes! Anyone ever heard of venting? You know like when you call your friend and you just pour out your heart on whatever situation, then your in this mess of emotions together, somehow things don't feel any better afterward, misery just loves company! Can you imagine if David had went and vented to his gang of 400 misfits?
(my time is up! anyone have anything special about the last 3?)
4)David rehearsed his trust in God
5)David longed for God's presence
6)David confessed his desperate need
Love to all!!
I can't resist noting one more thing! 1 Samuel 22:2 David's crew sounded a bunch like someone else's! Who would that be?
Okay, for real have got to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day Five-The Blessed Reminder
Today will be short but sweet. I hope you didn't miss how God was relentless with wanting David to know that He was there and He was still going with His plan. Fear can absolutely blind us to God's provision in our life. David was frantically running for his life, scared of who was going to rat him out to Saul and scared of who was just scared of him, the beastly warrior that he was. I wonder if David was aware of God's presence through out all those situations? Samuel's words of encouragement, the bread of presence, Goliaths sword, even the creativity of street smarts!
I like how she ended with some encouragement to keep us moving forward. "Studying God's Word is habit forming. Keep praying for a hunger and thirst for His Word. Like David, God does not want you feeding from common loaves. He desires to feed you with the bread of His Presence!"
Remember He is the Bread of Life, it is Him that we are studying, He wants us to know Him, to know He pursues us just like He pursued David!
Lord Jesus I pray that you would give my friends eyes to see You at work, relentlessly pursuing them this week. Jesus i pray we would not be too distracted by the cares of this world to miss Your presence. Jesus we just want to lift up to you all the prayer requests we discussed this week (and those we didn't discuss!) may our hearts be tender to so many conflicting situations. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, AMEN.

Day Four-Common Bonds, Uncommon Friends
Deep sigh. I read this lesson today and just feel overcome with emotion so thankful for those kindred spirit friendships that God has placed in my life. At the same time just know the sting some of you may feel because your life seems to be lacking that. I hope it may encourage you to know that God did not start forming those relationships for me until I had a solid foundation with Him first. Remember-He is jealous for us, sometimes He will place us in situations where He doesn't want our BFF to get that first text message, He wants to be the first to know.
I love I Samuel 20:17 Jonathan loved David as he loved himself! wow-how lacking in that we are. The inspired Word really does inspire us, doesn't it? As soon as i read that i felt convicted, happily so! God is so gentle and faithful with us to work all this junk out of our lives! This whole chapter of how the were both free to express frustration, fear, accusation but neither were easily offended. I struggle with this so much, daily even! I think our society is just so full of ourselves we get so sidetracked, like someone can say 10 nice things to you and then they can say one little off comment and our opinion of them sinks. The other day some of us were doing some volunteer work and most people were nothing but sweet and appreciative ... but then one person made just a couple little remarks that soured the experience. How many times do i sour someones day?
At the bottom of page 44 she asks us if we have a "three strand" friendship based on
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, i am reminded of something i learned while studying the Song of Solomon. Its the idea of this wonderful triangle that i had to help Casey ask me to create... See as you are pursuing and chasing after God (climbing up the triangle) you look across the way and you see who is running at the same speed! Do you get it??? Corny i know, however it works. Choose to surround yourself with people who are after what you are after, there is of course room in our lives for others but in talking this week about kindred spirits and covenant relationships we need to reserve those places in our lives for those who are running the race..... this goes for when your looking for boys to...not that most of you are allowed to look. just kidding...
Thats all i have for now! <3Lori

Day three-The Great Escape
Well let me start by saying i am so loving reading your comments! I keep praying for more computer time so i can chat with you all. Don't be shy all of you who aren't joining in on the fun yet. There are no right or wrong answers here, just digging through all this info we are taking in will help us to remember it and to apply it to our daily lives.
Does anyone feel bad for Saul? Yuck, just the thought of being on an emotional roller coaster! I totally get that he had his chance and disobeyed, but oh my goodness am i thankful for Jesus work on the cross! First of all when Jesus died His blood covered our disobedience (sin) so that we could be in a right relationship with Him. Second His work on the cross was necessary so we could receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Remember Saul had the Holy Spirit and then He didn't. That is one of the huge differences between Old Testament and New, in the N.T. we are told that once we receive the Holy Spirit we are sealed until the day of redemption! Ladies that means that we have the full power of God within us, we can choose not to get on that emotional roller coaster. We can choose to pursue, chase down, work hard for peace in our life.
One of the reasons i wanted to do this particular study with you all is the crazy dynamics of all the different relationships going on. We are already seeing examples of true and loyal friends, insane enemies and how they all do life together. Reality is (haha) we will see both sides of these relationships in our lives at sometime or another. Hopefully not to the extreme of having spears thrown at us but as i type this the little tune popped into my head "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me" THAT'S A LIE! I think you all have been on this earth long enough to know that words do hurt. Ohhh! I'm having a moment here! So would you agree with me that other peoples words can sometimes pierce us like a spear? That being said how many times have you actually been the one throwing the spear? Are you following me here?
POP QUIZ! Does anyone remember the lesson we discussed last week when the ones being attacked became like their attacker?
Darn, I gotta go! My babies just got home from church!
Love you all, stay with it girls!!!!

Day Two-A Jealous Eye
Jaundice of the soul. Cruel as the grave. The green eyed monster. Yep, sounds about right to me!
In the middle of p.36 I could totally relate when she said "When emotions are unchecked by the Holy Spirit, one negative emotion can easily feed another, joining together as links in a chain of bondage." She then went on to give us the original Hebrew word and definition for anger. I noticed that it was very active: to glow, be kindled, ignite...
Note to self: unchecked anger will consume our entire mind set and lead to action.
Can you relate? Have you ever been there? No picnic.
Interestingly enough Saul's jealousy and anger over David's life is totally because the boy is blessed. I love how over and over throughout this passage it is obvious that God has poured out his favor on him. He's unstoppable on the battlefield, the people love him, Saul's daughter loves him, i don't think at this point Saul even knows that his son Jonathan & David are BFF.
Okay, so have you ever been jealous of someone else's blessings?
I so have! When i first started following Christ i was so jealous of other friends that had grown up in their nice little Christian homes, now their husbands were Super Christian guy.... My jealousy of them turned into SO many different emotions!! I was angry, I felt cheated by God, I felt like a fake, like why am I even bothering... Thank God He unraveled that yarn ball of emotions and completely changed my mindset! (that is what He is in the business of doing) I didn't even mention my jealousy over those who had been give beautiful voices to worship. But I'm sure none of you have that problem.
We read Acts 5:17-19 but i just want to give a shout out to v20! they were set free from jail so they could do what? go give the people this message of life! Amen!
Do any of you have anyone in your life you are jealous for? Want to share so we can pray? I am jealous for my sisters Stephanie, Tiffany, Melissa I just am desperate for them to know Christ and the peace he has to offer them!!!
Did anyone else find it weird that David was "delighted" with his payment option in v26?
Love to all!

Day One-An Amazing Covenant
Okay, so i am seriously wondering what your honest opinion of Jonathan is right now? The kind of allegiance to David he has shown and it seems to be one sided. Sadly i think our world today would portray that as mushy and weak and desperate for a friend. When i first came to Christ God raised up some women just like this to surround me. They were calling me all the time just to see how i was, sending me notes of encouragement, offering to watch my babies, bringing me meals. I thought they were so WEIRD. not nice, WEIRD! I remember Wendy bringing dinner to my house one night, she didn't want to come in and hit me with her Bible for hours she just dropped it with a nice note and left. The conversation at dinner went like this. "Why? Why did she do it? Thats weird. I know. Why? Why did she do it? Thats weird! I know!" (note our heightened drama)
Those precious ladies loved on me and i thought they were weird. Christ absolutely used them to melt my heart. Now i pray i am just as weird as them, if not weirder.
Know that when we see something over and over again throughout the Word it is because He so desperately wants us to get it! (1Sam18:1-4, Genesis 15, Deut 7:6-9 I John 4:10 & countless more times!) He chose us. He loves us. Even when we are unlovable. Even when we don't love him back.
Does anyone want to share how they came into their covenant connection with Christ?
Anybody confused about it? Anything else jump out at you???
